This weekend we celebrate Memorial Day, which is set aside to honor those who gave their lives in our nation’s fights to preserve liberty and our way of life. This weekend my prayers are prayers of thanks, offered in gratitude for their sacrifice, for the lives they gave up that we might enjoy the freedoms and promise of our great nation.
Memorial Day is also a good day to recognize why they made that sacrifice and reflect on what has been lost as we have allowed ourselves to drift away from our faith in God and Country.
What has happened to America? What has happened to our national, state, and our local governments? Why have we moved so far from God and from our Constitution. Why have we let people empower themselves over God and Country.
Over the past decades we have seen political leaders take on these same attitudes, placing ever greater importance on short-term personal desires, while deliberately ignoring the principles embedded in our Constitution. Because we have been losing that battle, we have edged closer to losing our Country.
In recent years, there has been hope, because we finally have some leaders who are pushing back against this trend. But the battle is a tough one and it will be a continuous, ongoing struggle.
It is time to rededicate ourselves to those beliefs we held so dear. I ask you to stand with me and continue the fight to return to those values.
It is worth it. Our country and our Constitution, and our values are all worth it. It is not about you or me, it is about serving God and Country.
